The Foundation ensures that all the children we work with have access to a proper education and supports their adherence to school.
The Foundation raises health awareness directly in the communities and facilitates their access to local medical services.
Many vulnerable children do not have access to education. Instead of going to school, they spend every day in the slums or construction site camps where they live. Many of them do not even have proper supervision, as their parents are away at work in extremely difficult conditions.
To prepare the children for school, Baan Dek Foundation offers critical transitional non-formal education sessions. We conduct these sessions in the communities, and we base our activities on a curriculum specifically designed for the needs of the most disadvantaged communities.
The disadvantaged communities we support throughout Chiang Mai often lack access to basic healthcare. Many beneficiaries do not know how to access and navigate the local medical system, they lack financial resources, and face other major obstacles in obtaining adequate healthcare.
Baan Dek Foundation delivers regular awareness sessions in the communities which are designed according to their needs. We cover a large range of critical issues, including HIV-AIDS, immunization, reproductive health, nutrition, and hygiene. We accompany families to local medical services whenever needed, focusing especially on pregnant women and babies. We also provide regular counseling to address the specific needs of the most vulnerable individuals.
Vulnerable children living in construction areas are often left by themselves while their parents are at work, exposing them to hazardous environments and situations. Concerns for the children's safety also include obtaining a legal status and preventing physical or emotional abuses.
Baan Dek Foundation develops partnerships with construction companies. We count on their participation when implementing our programs and encourage their commitment in providing appropriate environments for the children in their camps. We conduct regular awareness sessions to prevent abuses, respecting international child protection standards. Thai Social Advisors run individual case management in order to provide tailored support in critical situations until the families can again become self-sufficient. We conduct confidential counseling with vulnerable families and work hand in hand with local governmental services whenever necessary.
