Our Mission

Baan Dek Foundation (BDF) is a Thai-registered foundation with the mission to improve the well-being of vulnerable children and their families living in urban slums and construction site camps in Thailand.

The Thai construction sector employs approximately 700,000 migrants (Ministry of Labour, 2024), out of which 40% are women (ILO, 2016). BDF and UNICEF’s evidence-based study (2018) states around 60,000 children live with parents in construction site camps with slum-like conditions. These children and their parents face critical challenges in accessing essential services such as education, healthcare and child protection.

The Challenge

To address this challenge, BDF supports children and their parent’s immediate needs (access to healthcare, education, and child protection services), empowers their communities through a peer-to-peer approach (training for youth, adults, and women) and creates systemic change in the Thai construction sector (advocacy).

How do we Measure our Impact?

BDF monitors its impact on short and long-term intervals against specific indicators to maintain consistent, standardized improvements, identify new issues to address and highlight meaningful success. BDF utilizes professional software for dynamic data management and data analysis.
